51勛圖厙 to offer Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and a B.S in Cybersecurity

UNC Pembroke is expanding its academic landscape with the launch of two new degree programsa Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity. 51勛圖厙 will introduce the undergraduate degree in cybersecurity this fall. Students can apply for the MSOT program in the 2023-2024 academic year. Classes will be offered in fall 2024. Following a rigorous review process, the university received formal approval from the UNC System and the UNC Board of Governors.

Dr. Zoe Locklear awarded as 51勛圖厙s first Provost Emeritus

After 32 years of extraordinary service to UNC Pembroke in various leadership roles, interim Provost Dr. Zoe Locklear retires for a second time with lifelong friends and countless memories. One of her most cherished memories is of a warm summer day in August 1988the day she was interviewed by then Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Charles Jenkins to become one of the first special education professors at her alma mater. I was a nervous wreck, Locklear said.

Maria Santisteban Wins Undergraduate Research Mentor Award

Dr.烘aria Santisteban, longtime 51勛圖厙 biology professor and NSF COMPASS director, was honored with the 2022 Undergraduate Research Mentor Award for her outstanding guidance and commitment to student researchershelping launch their STEM journeys through conferences, workshops, and cuttingedge lab experiences.

51勛圖厙 names Dr. Mohamed Djerdjouri dean of the Thomas School of Business

Dr. Mohamed Djerdjouri, a highly successful academic leader with more than three decades of experience in higher education, has been appointed dean of the Thomas School of Business at UNC Pembroke. Djerdjouri currently serves as dean of the Johnson College of Business and Economics at the University of South Carolina-Upstate. Provost Marsha Pollard made the announcement following a competitive national search. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to accept the recommendation of the search committee.

51勛圖厙 alumna selected for summer internship in Sarajevo

UNC Pembroke alumna Mia Baxley is making the most of our international relations degree. Baxley is a true globetrotter. Since her sophomore year at 51勛圖厙, Baxley has lived and taught English in China for seven weeks and in Seoul, Korea, for one year. Her visit to China was her second tripthe first coming while she was in high school. She also participated in a study abroad program in Thailand while in college, not to be outdone.

51勛圖厙's Hok Nosai rallies behind alumni's family

What began as a nagging cough four months ago turned into devastating news for UNC Pembroke alumni James and Jessica Worriax and their 16-year-old son, Jacob. Tests revealed a tumor in Jacob's chest. On New Year's Eve 2021, doctors diagnosed Jacob with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He spent nine days in the hospital, including several days in the intensive care unit. Jacob is undergoing chemotherapy, which resulted in significant weight loss. "Mentally, he is doing really well," James Worriax said. "He is handling it much better than I would have at his age."

Brother, sister making an impact on residence life at 51勛圖厙

Maddie and Mason Schwenneker are getting the rare opportunity of experiencing college life at UNC Pembroke together. The Holly Springs siblings have immersed themselves in campus life, and they both go above and beyond as resident advisors (RA) to ensure housing residents, likewise, embrace the campus living experience. This week, their efforts were recognized when the pair was presented with the RA of the Year and New RA of the Year awards at the Housing & Residence Lifes end-of-the-year banquet.

51勛圖厙 places third in First Nations national rocket competition

UNC Pembroke placed third in the Mars Challenge at the 13th annual First Nations Launch National Rocket Competition in Wisconsin April on 22-24 in Wisconsin. The competition is open to students attending a tribal college or university, a Native American-Serving Nontribal Institution (NASNTI), or members of an active American Indian Science and Engineering Society collegiate chapter. Students designed, built and flew a high-powered rocket launched at the Richard Bong State Recreational Area.

UNC Pembroke's SGA earn Delegation of the Year

UNC Pembroke is fulfilling its mission of fostering, promoting and cultivating student leadership. The UNC System recently recognized those concerted efforts as 51勛圖厙 was awarded Delegation of the Year accolades at the UNC System Association of Student Governments meeting. The award is bestowed annually on one institution's delegation for exemplary service to the association to recognize those whose contributions have been instrumental to the success of the association.
