As students return to campus for the fall 2025 semester, UNC Pembroke is introducing several important updates to parking policies and procedures. These changes are intended to improve enforcement, align with recent property changes and ensure a smoother parking experience for students.

Lots 1 and 2 No Longer Operated by 51³Ô¹ÏÍø
Parking Lots 1 and 2 — located across the railroad tracks along West 3rd Street — are no longer owned or managed by the university. CSX Railroad, which owns the land, did not renew 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s lease agreement. These lots are now operated by , a private company that charges for use and enforces its own rules and regulations.

51³Ô¹ÏÍø parking permits are not valid in these lots. Students who park there without paying may be ticketed, booted or towed by the private company, and enforcement is handled entirely outside of the university’s control.

To avoid potential issues, students are encouraged to use university-managed Lots 8, 8B and 23. A digital map and downloadable PDF are available at uncp.edu/parking to help students navigate on-campus options.

License Plate Recognition Replaces Hangtags
As part of its transition to a modernized system, 51³Ô¹ÏÍø has eliminated physical parking hangtags. Instead, a student’s vehicle license plate now serves as the official parking permit. Students should ensure they enter their license plate number correctly when registering, as this is how vehicles will be identified for compliance.

Nose-In Parking Now Required
To support license plate recognition, all vehicles must be parked nose-in (front-first) in university lots. Back-in parking is not permitted unless the vehicle is using a designated electric vehicle charging station. Vehicles that do not comply may be subject to citation.

Students with questions or needing assistance can contact the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Traffic Office at 910.521.6795 or visit uncp.edu/parking for full details and permit registration.
