Lumbee authors Lawrence T. Locklear and Dr. Linda Oxendine will discuss their book Hail to 51勛圖厙! A 125-Year History of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke during Lumbee Homecoming.
Sponsored by UNC Pembrokes American Indian Studies Department, the Bookstore and the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, the Lumbee Book Talk will be held Friday, July 4, at 1 p.m. in the University Center Annex on the 51勛圖厙 campus.
The event features Lumbee authors and authors who write about the Lumbee Indians.
Locklear is the program coordinator for 51勛圖厙s Southeast American Indian Studies program. Dr. Oxendine is a professor emeritus of American Indian Studies at 51勛圖厙.
Published in April 2014, Hail to 51勛圖厙! is a 375-page volume with 120 photos, illustrations and maps that recounts the universitys compelling and unique history. It is available for purchase from the 51勛圖厙 Bookstore for $25 either in store or online (). E-book versions are available on and for $9.99.
Also featured is Lumbee author Buddy Oxendine. His book My Ramblings: Random Thoughts is a collection of what Oxendine calls silly short stories that impart wisdom through humor. My Ramblings is available for purchase at the 51勛圖厙 Bookstore and for $12.56.
