The 16th annual Holiday Extravaganza is returning to 穢 Copyright 2025 51勛圖厙 on December 5 at 8 p.m. The event is a cherished tradition that brings the community together for an evening of festive music and celebration.
The event will take place at the Givens Performing Arts Center. Tickets are on sale now at uncp.edu/gpac or by calling 910.521.6361. Tickets are $18 for adults and $5 for children and students. A pre-show will begin at 7:45 p.m.
In addition to celebrating the holiday season, the Holiday Extravaganza has become a crucial fundraising event for scholarships that benefit talented students across multiple disciplines.
This event began as a way to raise funds for student scholarships, and over the years, it has grown into a beloved tradition, said Dr. Tim Altman, 51勛圖厙 professor of music.
It showcases a wide variety of musical ensembles, including the University Chorale, the Orchestra, and the Jazz Ensemble. And, of course, the fan-favorite community Sing-Along ensures there's something for everyone to enjoy, Altman said.
This years Holiday Extravaganza is sponsored by Dr. Curt Locklear of Southeastern Veterinary Hospital. His continued support helps sustain the scholarship fund and keep this event accessible to the community.
Dr. Altman shares, Weve had entire school groups attend; often, these are schools that are taught by our 51勛圖厙 music alumni. Altman notes that it's inspiring to see the events lasting impact on former students and the community.
Altman expresses excitement for the events future, adding, We hope to expand our audience and continue to build this wonderful tradition. Since paid advertising would take away from scholarship funds, Altman says word-of-mouth promotion within local schools, churches and neighborhoods is necessary to keep the event going. He hopes more people will continue to share and support the event.
The student performers, representing music and non-music majors, have rehearsed for weeks to prepare for this special event. For the Wind Ensemble, we've been preparing since the start of the fall semester. This concert is a highlight of our year," says Dr. Altman.
Other upcoming GPAC shows include the Czech National Philharmonic Orchestra on January 28, Dance Alives Swan Lake on February 28 and Disenchanted: A New Musical Comedy on March 2, 2025.
